CA Debuts Early Warning of Earthquakes

Earthquakes are far scarier to me than hurricanes, because at least we see the hurricanes coming these days due to radar and satellite technology! Every time I am on the west coast I feel a little uneasy, although I’ve yet to experience a quake.

I just learned that California has launched the nation’s first Earthquake Early Warning System, which transmits warnings to residents via a smartphone app and wireless emergency alerts. While they don’t promise to provide hurricane-type advance warning, organizers say that even a few seconds will allow people to take cover and could halve the number of injuries.
