Robotic book delivery systems, also known as bookBots, are a popular technology in new libraries – they help maximize usable space in the library and can efficiently store a tremendous number of books. In NC State University’s Hunt Library, the bookBot can store up to 2 million items and deliver them within 5 minutes of a user’s online request. I use the cost-efficient book delivery system regularly and marvel at the mechanical and civil engineering technology and precision necessary to make it happen! Check out a short video I made of the bookBot in action. – Daniel Findley, DTC’s Engineering Economics instructor
