About 90% of the world’s vehicles operate on gasoline, which of course is a fossil fuel created from processing petroleum. Recently Aircela, on a roof-top in Manhattan, demonstrated that gasoline can also be conjured from thin air. No, it isn’t magic but implementation of physics discovered by Klaus Lackner.

The device captures carbon dioxide from the air and assembles it into gasoline that can be directly used in most cars. The refrigerator sized machine produces fuel doesn’t contain sulfurs, heavy metals, or ethanol. It does require electricity though, so it isn’t free. The advantage of this device is that high-density energy can be produced and stored easily using existing infrastructure. If the device is powered with carbon-free power, the gasoline is essentially carbon neutral. So, in the future your next fill-up may come literally out of thin air. – Steve Terry, DTC HVAC & Refrigeration Instructor
