Ok, we are going off the deep end here. Mechanical engineers at Rice University have discovered that dead spiders have an incredible grip. Wolf spiders that they have been doing research on in the lab can pick up as much as 130% of their body weight – when dead that is.

Apparently, unlike most other creatures who move by opposing muscles, spiders move by hydraulics. A small chamber near their head is filled with blood. When the spider wants to extend a leg, they pump blood into it. Let off the pressure and the leg returns. This is why dead spiders have their legs curl up onto themselves. As they say, “You learn something new every day.”

The researchers have all sorts of ideas that could use dead spiders. I’ll let you read the article. You will not be bored. – Dr. Tom
