Concerned about the safety medical workers, graduate students at North Carolina State University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering machine shop are now creating protective shields for medical personnel working with Covid-19 patients in hospitals and clinics.

These specialized masks have positive pressure systems to create a seal around the doctor’s face and prevent any aerosols from coming in. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to make each mask, and right now they’re making about 80 per day. With more requests coming in and other facilities volunteering to assist, that number could go up.

More wonderful work by engineers to meet the challenge of this crisis and protect our frontline medical professionals. – Dr. Tom
