Termites – Tiny HVAC Engineers

A story that started over 25 years ago got an update recently in an ASME article “What Termites Can Teach Engineers.” The story started in 1992 when Mick Pearce, an architect in Zimbabwe, was commissioned to build Eastgate Centre, a major office and shopping mall in Harare, the capital. It was to be 340,000 square feet […]

FEATURED TESTIMONIAL – Saves Tons of Time and Energy

“I passed the PE exam! The extended review course clearly guided me through my entire exam preparation, saves tons of time and energy. The instructions complement some of unfamiliar topics in my engineering background. All topics and problems mentioned in the review course are well designed towards passing the actual exam. Thank you all!” – Shawn Li, […]

Perseverance Can Pay Off!

While there are plenty of people who pass the PE Exam on the first try, there are are quite a few who don’t. We have lots of folks who come to DTC after trying to study on their own or taking review courses from other sources, and we have helped many of them pass on […]

Unfold Your Way onto the Water

One of the most popular outdoor activities is kayaking. Kayaks are so personal and enjoyable to scoot around on the water. The less enjoyable part is getting them to the water. As small as they are, the size, shape and weight of kayaks make them a challenge to transport to many waterways that folks would like to […]

You will not be able to prepare and bring any references with you into the exam. The only reference you are allowed will be provided on the computer screen. To […]

PE EXAM TIP – Have Only One Way to Work a Problem

There is a wealth of information out there on how to solve PE Exam problems. For any given class of problems, you can find many solution approaches. You may have even thought of additional, and quite valid, approaches on your own. However, seeking out a number of approaches has a troublesome downside. All you need […]

Shareable Electric Scooters – For or Against?

As the saying goes, “There are two kinds of people.” When the topic is shareable electric scooters, the line between “for” or “against” is clearly defined. Not many people are on the fence. A recent ASME article summarized the arguments for both sides very nicely. In fact, it might serve as a starting document for taking a fresh […]

Cactus to the Pollution Rescue

Could the humble cactus be the solution to our plastic waste problem? Chemical engineering professor Sandra Pascoe Ortiz is beta-testing an edible, biodegradable packaging material made from the juice of prickly pear cactus leaves. The juice “is a natural polymer that can be improved by combining certain substances to give it a similar appearance and […]
