Top 12 Gifts for the Engineer in Your Life. That is the title of an article in a recent ASME SmartBrief. We are past Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, and now face a month of special holidays and celebrations like birthdays (mine is in December). If you need a gift for someone who is an engineer, one of the 12 in this article might be just the gift.

Several caught my attention: a t-shirt with the words “Robotics is the Bacon of Engineering”. From Amazon in a variety of colors. Then “finger flashlight gloves.” How many times have you needed a third hand to hold a flashlight? These are really cool. From Amazon. And then maybe my favorite: “engineering slogan socks” where the bottom of one sock says “Trust Me I’m An Engineer” (I’ve said that to my wife many times to no avail) and the other says “Let’s Just Assume I’m Never Wrong.” These are also from Amazon.

There are several more very unique gifts highlighted in the article, in particular a pen that acts like a Swiss Army knife in that it has a built-in ruler in both SI and US Customary units, a level, a mini screwdriver with both flat head and Phillips head, all in a variety of colors.

You might not choose one of these, but they certainly get your “gears” turning as to other possibilities. – Dr. Tom
