Face mask and other PPE challenges are be met with creativity and teamwork by engineers across the country, and the University of Idaho College of Engineering is no exception. The engineering faculty there are working with medical professionals to help meet the huge supply shortfall in PPE.

Specifically, faculty are working to finalize a design for 3D-printed filtering face piece respirator masks – with improved breathability and the ability to use a variety of filtration materials. The University is also working on creating mobile sterilization stations to clean masks with ultraviolet C light. The designs are open-source and available for others to use. A real life example of how we really are all in this together. – Daniel Findley, DTC Civil Transportation Instructor
