The extent of robot applications is increasing at an exponential rate, many being used in very sophisticated and complex processes. But what about making guacamole?

Yes, the Chipotle restaurant chain has partnered with Vebu, a robot development company that created “Autocado” (yep, that’s the name) to cut, core, and peel 25 pounds of avocadoes at a time. This is the most tedious job in the process and is expected to reduce the time to make a batch of guacamole in half.

Guacamole is one of my wife and I’s favorite snacks and this part of the process is indeed the most tedious. We have even gone to buying already prepared plain guacamole, then we add various ingredients to get exactly the taste and consistency we like. I can see it now. Autocado robots for the home! The commercials should be very interesting. – Dr. Tom
